Inside Hasan Pikers radical views on America, Israel and socialism

Controversial Twitch streamer Hasan Piker has built his online brand through intense commentary on political topics ranging from economics to foreign policy. During his daily streams, which last several hours, he gives his takes on the issues of the day, often through a combative left-wing lens.

As Piker's influence has moved from his online audience and into the real world, including Democratic politics and campus events, critics argue his ideology deserves more scrutiny.

To his supporters, Piker is an effective messenger for a generation looking for something outside traditional political structures. However, multiple critics who spoke with Fox News Digital described the streamer's worldview as going beyond typical progressive and anti-establishment outlooks. They claim his beliefs cast America as fundamentally corrupt, treat socialism as the answer to economic frustrations and frame Israel as uniquely immoral and illegitimate.

WHO IS HASAN PIKER? MEET THE FAR-LEFT STREAMER WHO IS STIRRING UP CONTROVERSY AND DIVIDING DEMOCRATS

Eli Lake, a senior reporter at The Free Press and host of the podcast "Breaking History," told Fox News Digital that Piker's belief system is "informed in many ways by a Marxist view of history" and that the streamer is part of "a tradition of the anti-American left."

"There is a tradition of elements of the Left that believes that the country and the republic are rotten to its core, and I think that that is a distinction from, you know, a more kind of hopeful version of progressivism," Lake told Fox News Digital.

Lake contrasted Piker's beliefs with a reform-minded view in which the Declaration of Independence serves as a starting point from which the U.S. would progress. The goal, according to Lake, would be to hold the country to its stated ideals, an approach that he said is "distinct from the way that Hasan Piker understands the United States as sort of irredeemably evil."

In one of Piker's more recent controversial statements, the streamer said in an interview with Axios that the U.S. was worse than al-Qaeda.

"Pound for pound as far as the number of deaths, yes," Piker told Axios. "We have caused tremendous terror all around the world."

Lake criticized Piker's remarks in an article for The Free Press, writing that the streamer's inability to "to grasp the distinction between intentionally and unintentionally killing civilians" showed his "moral illiteracy."

"I almost felt guilty writing a column because I could assume it was so obvious that America is nothing like al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda deliberately is trying to kill as many civilians as it can," Lake told Fox News Digital. "If Hasan Piker cannot distinguish between America and its foreign policy and that of al-Qaeda in a moral sense at least, or he thinks they're equal or 'pound for pound' America is worse, then he's helpless."
